King Kong the Musical (2013)

Director Daniel Kramer : "three years of auditions and workshops" before performances began. He added, "It’s tempting to focus on the spectacle of King Kong himself. But it is only through the humanity of the life around him – the people of New York City, the comic megalomania of filmmaker Carl Denham, the stubborn opposition of first mate Jack Driscoll, and the grace, beauty and power of our leading lady, Ann Darrow – that he truly takes life."

'Featuring 140 cast and crew members, KING KONG
combines stunning choreography, groundbreaking puppetry, breathtaking circus skills and world class animatronics. With a score that features modernised musical standards including I Wanna Be Loved By You, Brother Can You Spare A Dime and Get Happy and new compositions from the world’s best contemporary artists, including Guy Garvey (Elbow), Justice, Sarah McLachlan, The Avalanches, 3D from Massive Attack and Marius de Vries (Moulin Rouge, Romeo+Juliet) this new multi-million dollar production will inspire wonder, romance, adventure and redefine the way we experience music theatre.'

The size and scale of this production means that it is a Melbourne only showing and is unable to tour.  it is truly a spectical  of the designers ability, to recreate to scale, a fully functional mythical beast such as King Kong. i have included a series of footage and images presenting the behind the scenes construction of the production.
